What is a "User-Created Map"?
Almost everything about the Lands of 'Black & White' is determined by a text-format file. It is readable and editable in any text editor. However, it is ~Not~ like a letter from Aunt Millie. This text-file is converted by the Game-Engine into the borders, elevations, and features of your Island.
There is a report that one dedicated Coder at Lionhead is developing (in his spare time) a Random-World-Generator. Until its unspecified release-date, it seems most maps are re-arrangements of existing In-Game Maps. Even so, many of them add much to game-play.
Caution is in order though: Since the map's text-file acts as code, a poorly-written map can crash your game. I have not come across such bad coding yet, but I have seen some Ugly and Useless object placement.

Poop by 'Lunar': One of his first designs, 'Lunar' no longer recommends this map. Budding Map-Creators should check this out as a warning example. Opposing gods eventually fade away, while your villagers get stuck between buildings and expire. Features airborne Wonders, overlapping farms, and villagers that live a town away from their worship center. Nonetheless, genius is apparent, and he gets his craft tuned in his other maps, above.
